The Piritteri family, who began growing grapes five generations ago in Sicily, Italy, moved to the shores of Lake Niagara in Canada in 1948. So the family bought a small orchard to grow fruits and vegetables. In 1973, the Gary’s Fruit Market was opened and was crowded with local shoppers and tourists.
Beside that, he actively cultivated wine grapes and established a winery in 1991. In 1993, it grew into a winery capable of producing up to 16,000 cases, and is now the largest producer of ice wine in Canada, transforming into having the largest underground cellar in Oriental.
After that, he has won awards not only in Canada but also at the international level, and now he is run by a family led by Charlie Piritelli. It is a winery that is active in new and unique attempts such as the first release of black grape Shiraz ice wine and the development of sparkling ice wine.
